Parents Evenings

Monday 5th and Thursday 8th March

Our mid year parents evenings will be hosted on the above dates. Booking sheets will be placed in the verandah after half term and we would urge all parents to book a consultation with staff. The Year 6 pupils will act as escorst for the evning, and you will be able to leave school aged children with them in the library.

FOSA DISCO

Friday 9th February

Starting at the usual disco time of 6:30, there will be another FOSA Disco at the Vilage Hall this Friday. As its close to alentine's day, suitable attire should be worn !

Class 2 fruit talk

Tuesday 16th February

Jane Brooke will give a talk to Class 2 on the growing of fruit and vegetables and the healthiness of eating them !

Visit from Huish Science College

Friday January 19th

Mrs Vardy, head of Year 7, wil visit Class 3 to observe us in action and to talk to Year 6 regarding transfer in september.

Plate match V Ash (football)

Thursday 18th January

The long awaited clash to see who goes through to the quarter finals. Last time we lost to them 2-1, so it should be close.

Parents spelling workshop

Thursday 25th January

Learn how to help your child with spelling with annie Fisher, LEA literacy consultant. This wil be a very informative evening.

Area cross country

Wednesday 24th January

Can we repeat last years stunning performance at Huish science College ? Start time should be 2:30. We are looking for volunters to man the course !

Orienteering training at school

Thursday 25th January

PE co-ordinators and other interested adults will gather here to learn how to coach orienteering to the primary age range !

Erection of Travel Shelter

Thursday February 1st

The long awaited parents travel shelter will be positioned outside the front of the current main entrance to give parents a pleasant place to wiat at the beginning or end of school.

School nurse surgery

Monday February 5th

The school nurse will be here to give advice on asthma. Please do take the opportunity to ask him qusetions.

SAT's evening for Year 6 parents

Thursday February 8th

A chance for Year 6 parents to see past papers, receive advice on revision techniques and guidance on how they can help their child.

Cross Country at Curry Mallet

Thursday March 1st

The final race in the Huish Area cross country races.

Relay at King's

Monday 5th March

Last year in the summer, we were the only school to turn up ! So we won ! Teams of three compete against each other, running 800 metres or so before handing on the baton.

Area Rugby Tournament

Wednesday 7th March

Brian Smith's club will be ready for this event and determined to repat their winning performance of last year ! Venue has yet to be confirmed.

Red Nose Day

Friday 16th March

We will once again be supporting the comic relief day. We await furhter details form the organisers.

Somerset Primary Schhols' Cross Country

Saturday 17th March

The races for Years 5 and 6 will be held as usual at King's School, Taunton. We expect the start tme to be 2 O'clock.

Class 3 theatre visit

Wednesday 21st March

Class 3 are going to the Octagon Theatre to see Shakespeare yet again. Last year itwas Romeo and Juliet, this year it is A Misummer's Night's Dream. The performance starts at 1:30, so they will back at school after the normal school day.

Children's parliament

Friday 23rd March

Two of our children (one Year 5 and one Year 6) will represent Hambridge School at the inaugural Children's Parliament to be held at Huish Science College

Area netball and football tournament at Huish Science College

Wednesday 28th March

This will take place from 2:30pm and should last, depending on success, at around 4:30

Class 2 trip to Bristol

Wednesday 22nd November

Class 2 will be visiting the SS Great Britain as part of their studies on Brunel. They will also see the Clifton Suspension Bridge.

Wellington Maths Challenge

Saturday 25th November

4 of our keenest mathematicians will be selected to represent the school at Wellington for this annual challenge. Parents will be able to tour the school whilst our team delve into numbers etc. tart time is 10:00 am.

School photographs

Tuesday 21st November

Tempest will be in for the afternoon to take the yearly school photos. Much has been said about a whole school photograph and class/sports teams photos, but it is unlikely that we we shall be able to do them at the same time. We shall arrange for Tempest to come back later in the year for these requested photos.

Cross country relay at Kings

Monday 20th November

Another chance for us to run in relay teams of three over 800 metres or so. Remember last year ? we won it by a mile !

Play Leaders Course

Thursday November 9th

Six Year 6 pupils will be undertaking a play leaders course at Curry Rivel Primary School which will enable them to learn new playground games and encourage more active play amongst others in the school playground. They have all filed out application forms for the role and a decision as to who the 6 will be shall be made immediately after half term. A follow up course for Year 5's wil be held in the summer term.

Tag Rugby coaching

Wednesday 8th November

Somerset Activity Sports Partnership will be hosting a one and a half hour tag rugby session straight after school, for those who would like to know more about how to teach it. Any parents interested in attending on the school's behalf, please see Mr Crabtree. Unfortunately our teaching staff cannot attend due to 'Parents Evening' being on the same night.

Year 6 to enter Threshold prize

Tuesday 7th November - TBC

Colin McFarlane, renowned local author, will be visiting Class 3 and specifically Year 6 to encourage their creativity and writing skills. He will be taking them into the local environment so they will need outdoor wear and wellies ! Following his inspirational input, they will then produce some writing which will be put forward into a competition known as the Threshold Prize.

Mr Spellbinder visits school

Friday November 10th

Key Stage 1 will be in for a treat when Mr Spellbinder visits us for the day. We will be joined by other schools from the CLP as he casts his literary spell over us all.

Healthy Schools Consultation group

Wednesday 15th November

Our consultation group of Mrs Corms, Mrs Male, Mrs Brandt, Adam Biswell and Nicola Livingstone, will meet with Mrs Brown to assess whether we meet the National Standards and what we may need to do further. this will take place at 9:00 am, probably in the committee room.

Cross country at Kingsbury

Tuesday 14th November

Another chance for our runners to show what they can do and possibly topple the might of High Ham in one of the Year groups ! Start 4:00 pm.

Residential evening - change of date

The original date of Monday 13th for this meeting has had to be changed due to a clash with a governors evening. Do come along to Class 3 to find out more about this years trip to loucestershire from June 15th - June 18th

Football match for our youngsters

Saturday November 4th

Steve Burell has invited our younger players over to Martock to play against his club side. Anyone who is a member of our school club can take part in this fixture. Kick off should be 10:00am

Spooky Disco

Friday 3rd November

Once again FOSA will be hosting an opportunity for our pupils and friends to get into Fancy Dress and dance the night away. e are told that the disco will encourage games as well as playing music. Drinks and snacks will be available.

Her Majesty's Inspectors visit !

Thursday 2nd November

On the first day back after half term, Ofsted will be looking at how we teach and promote 'Sustainable Development'. They will want to see some lessons, an assembly, speak to the School Council, other pupils and staff.

Hambridge cross countries

4th and 11th October

The next two Wednesdays see us hosting firstly the Huish CLP schools and then the Yeovil schools for our annual cross country. We are hopeful of a good turnout of competitors and also volunteers to help marshal. Weather forecast is changeable, so please come prepared for anything !

Offical opening of new play area and library

Friday October 6th

The Western Gazette will be here to take photographs of both the library and play area being opened. Mrs Allen, accompanied by some of our most interestingly dressed book characters will open the library, while FOSA and the lucky winner of the 'name the play area' competition will cut the ribbons there.

Change of School times

Wednesday 6th September

Do you have any comments to make about the school day finishing at 3:30 to accommodate a longer school lunchtime ? If so, come and meet representatives of the governing body at 6:30 p.m. in the library.

FOSA AGM

Wednesday 20th September

Why not enjoy some cheese and wine at the Annual General Meeting of the Friends of the School. An opportunity to hear the events of the year and put any ideas you may have forward and contribute to school life.
