Quote of the Week: 80 percent of learning difficulties are related to stress. Remove the stress and you remove the difficulties. - Gordon Stokes
Dear Parent,
Well what a start to the new term !!! We have no snow for the entire Christmas break and the day we come back……..
Anyway, a very warm and white welcome back and we hope you all enjoyed a very peaceful and enjoyable festive time. Also, a very warm welcome to the family of Daisy Thomas who joins us at today. We also say a sad farewell to the family of Ryan Biswell who we wish very good luck to, in their new home and schools.
It is at this point that we remind everyone how important this term is for achieving the goals one has set themselves, particularly Year 6. This is indeed the make or break term, and it is the shortest. If you want to succeed highly, now is the time to really put in the effort !!
Minibus
The new school minibus has just arrived and we are delighted to have it. It should give us more flexibility in how we arrange things and hopefully cuts out the reliance on parents to transport pupils to after school activities, particularly sporting. Of course that does not mean we do not want you there supporting, and you are always able to transport your own child should you wish, but the days of uncertainty about how pupils get to fixtures should be over (provided you know about them in the first place !!!)
We also have new lighting in the school in most areas which should produce a much better learning environment and you will no doubt have noticed the new posts in the village hall parking area, which will give safer access for our children to the hall at club, lunch and PE times.
Asthma
As part of our in service training, the staff undertook further First Aid training. We were told in no uncertain terms that any child suffering from asthmatic conditions should have an inhaler in school, which they should be responsible for. We therefore urge you to supply your child with one, should they be a sufferer, no matter how infrequent, and that both they and the staff know where it is to be kept.
Eridan International Ecole
Our partnership with the Eridan school continues and they will once again be coming to visit us in March. We shall be hosting them jointly with Kingsbury Episcopi Primary and I will be writing specifically at a later date about this. In the meantime, I would be grateful if you could give some thought as to whether you would be able to host a child from the school for a week.
Events this term
Due to the closure of the school today, I am unable to give you any dates as yet for Parents evenings etc, but will endeavour to do so as soon as possible.
Clubs
All clubs, with the exception of netball and catering, will start next week. The clubs list should accompany this newsletter and we would ask that you make a quick decision and return consent forms and any payment as soon as possible. Please note that payments for French Club should be made to Mrs Pathy Barker via the school. The turnaround for the Team Theme Football is very quick (and a separate flyer should accompany this newsletter) and for this Monday, I would say, that payment and consent forms could be handed in on the day.
Music lessons
We are delighted with the uptake of musical instrument lessons and with the progress our children are making. To this end we are introducing guitar lessons in the near future, and the children will have the opportunity to experience a guitar workshop next Monday. The cost of the lessons initially will be £10 for a half hour lesson and £6.66 for a 20 minute lesson. All lessons will be individual to start with.
There is a proforma below to express an interest in your child having guitar lessons.
On another matter, Class 2 will have SAMBA lessons this term with Miles, our drum teacher, and Miss Chattoe, and next term Class 3 will have guitar lessons with our new guitar teacher, and Miss Hammick. These of course will be whole class tuition.
Swimming
All being well our swimming lessons should start tomorrow at Crewkerne. Please do ensure you have returned your permission slips. The pool will supply 3 teachers, alongside Mr. Curry and myself.
Transport will be with Taylors coaches and we should return to school for 3:15.
Water Bottles
With our former suppliers having gone into liquidation !!!!! we have sourced water bottles from a new supplier, and these are now available from the office. Price £1.
We shall shortly have fitted new water fountains, specifically designed for filling up water bottles.
Lunches
We realise that we can only get the menus out to you today, for next week. If you can, please do return them by tomorrow, but we shall try to be as accommodating as possible if you cannot.
Woodpecker and Breakfast Club
These are both running this week, and should you require a booking please either fill out a form or let the office know. Mrs Berryman is chomping at the bit to get started !
Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Lush who had a baby girl a few days ago !
Tomorrow
As there is such little snow forecast it is our intention to open tomorrow. There were some disappointed parents who felt the school were being 'ridiculous' in opening, but as we have 84 pupils here today and almost all our staff, I feel it was worth it and that for the pupils it was worthwhile. Any parent who feels that the school is unsafe or is acting in a irresponsible way, has the right to keep their child at home.
Our thanks go to all the staff for braving it in and to those who helped me shovel paths and put down sand etc.
Yours sincerely,
Iain Crabtree
