Quote of the Week: 'Many of life's failures are people who did not know how close they were to success when they gave up' - Thomas Edison
Dear Parent,
A bit like buses, you wait for a while and then two come along almost at once !
FOHSA musical evening
FOHSA have recruited the band 'Freefall' to entertain us on Friday February 5th. The doors will open at 8 p.m. with tickets priced at £7 in advance and £8 on the door. The bar will be open, but there is no food on this occasion. Music is from the 60's onwards, and it promises to be a nostalgic but lively evening. Tickets are available from the organisers whose numbers are on the poster outside the verandah on the noticeboard.
Please do come along and make it an exciting evening for all.
Team Theme Football
Unlike Mr Crabtree's football session, this continues until 4.45, so you can give yourself an extra 15 minutes , unless you are collecting from netball at the same time.
Piano
All piano lessons will now take place on Tuesday afternoons to allow us space to have the guitar lessons on Wednesday.
Guitar
There has been an excellent response to this initiative and we are now full, save for lessons timetabled after school ends !! Do please bring along your guitar tomorrow and the teacher can advise on how suitable it is to learn on. If guitars need purchasing, we can order some and rent them out on a termly basis. If you rent them for a few terms, and the purchase price is reached, the guitar would then become yours (we are doing this with brass and woodwind instruments too)
Milk crates
Mrs Brown is at it again, planning on how to make the reception play area more exciting. She is on the lookout for tyres and any milk crates that people do not want. If you have any ideas…..please see Mrs Brown.
Subsidies
We have this year planned to subsidise a few school trips, namely the Class 1 trip to the Brewhouse Theatre, the Class 3 and 4 trip to the Octagon Theatre to see Macbeth in February and the visit to Class 2 today of the history man 'Steve Manning'. FOHSA have also agreed to subsidise each child £10 for a school trip, which we shall be using once these visits have been completed.
Tendencies
We have noticed a tendency for some of our pupils to 'back away' from challenges. When the going gets tough, the tough get going, according to the song, but we do see that some children sign up for things and then pack it in rather quickly. This is noticeable in running, other sporting clubs, some music lessons and, yes, homework and is most unhambridge like !! One of the greatest things we can give our children, other than love, is resilience, and the strength to battle on. Sometimes, as another song goes, you have to be 'cruel to be kind' to get the right balance.
On that note, we look forward to a number of challenging targets this term and hope that we meet them all head on in true Hambridge spirit.
Yours sincerely,
Iain Crabtree
