Quote of the week:
'The day, sum, water, moon, night. I do not have to purchase these things with money'. - Plautus
Dear Parent,
My apologies that firstly the newsletters have been a little delayed and that our new all singing and dancing screen isn't functioning at the moment. I am sure this is just a temporary blip, and that our providers will be able to rectify the situation quickly.
A parent has asked me if it is possible to put the screen information onto the website. I shall enquire, but I do not think the technology is there yet for us to do so.
Anti Bullying Week
We shall be focussing on anti bullying this week with activities in class and a themed day on Friday where we would ask that pupils wear blue, in support of anti bullying. There is no fund raising attached to this, so it is free to wear non school uniform. However, we have purchased wrist bands as an outward way of saying 'NO' to bullying, and these are available at a cost of 50p. They will be sold at the front of the school at the start and end of the school day.
Children In Need
What a fantastic effort !! The Year 6 made a massive contribution to getting everyone enthused for the day and a record total of £372 was raised. The cake stall raised over £60 as did the colouring competition and Katteia's sponsored silence. Even the busker made a quick £8 for her 15 minute stint at the start of school.
All in all a very proactive effort that makes us feel very proud that we can contribute so fully to those, who at this moment in their lives, need some support.
Thank you
Minibus
A parent recently said to me that she was the only one left, of a group, who wasn't working ! This comment along with the fact that we seem to be having more difficulty than ever in getting children to various activities has made us realise that a minibus would be of great benefit to the school community. It will take a while to procure, if the governors are in support, and would need careful thought as to how we fund the transportation of children, as the cost of buying the bus is one thing, but the cost to run it would be another. So, please watch this space.
Music lessons
We are delighted that so many of our pupils are now playing musical instruments at a cost lower than would be if we had stayed with Somerset Music. We are also really pleased that the recent music demonstration has led to another 4 children taking up trumpet, clarinet and flute. If you are interested in your child playing an instrument, please let Miss Hammick or myself know and we can advise as to costs and whether places are available.
Woodpecker and Breakfast Club
As you know Mrs Lush will be on maternity leave from next term for two terms. In the meantime, we have advertised and feel we have a very suitable replacement for her. More information will be available soon.
On another matter, it is very important that a form be filled in if your child is booked in for Woodpecker. This allows the school to know that a child is on the premises, as an oral request to Mrs Lush on the morning of the booking could mean that the office and other staff would be unaware. I would be grateful if you could help us with this.
Choir
This is the busy season for choir and choir members will already have received a letter from Miss Hammick. A reminder that it is Somerton Church on Monday with the coach departing at 12.15 via Kingsbury Primary. Parents are requested to collect their children from the church from 3p.m., if you are not already at the church. We shall take 2 staff cars in the vent that you cannot collect your child. The coach for Wells departs at 12:00 and children should be collected from the Cathedral as there is no coach back. Parents will need to be early to get good seats at the Cathedral (6.15). A school sweatshirt must be worn.
A CD will be coming back with your child today and we would be grateful if they could practice them and learn the words !!
Volunteers from school will be required for our usual visit to the Vicarage to sing Christmas carols to the residents on Wednesday 16th December in school time. Please use the consent form below if your child would like to join us.
Rugby
There is a rugby match next Thursday (3rd) for interested pupils. Letters out shortly.
XMAS BAZAAR
FOHSA'S Xmas bazaar is next Friday. A letter requesting support should be with you today. We hope you can all join us for a convivial shop and drink / mince pie.
Door procedure
Due to the heat loss from class 4 and the amount of traffic which disturbs the teachers preparation for the morning, The door via the ramp to Class 4 shall remain locked until 9.00 a.m. Instead the main entrance to the school will be unlocked (but shut) until 9:00 a.m. to allow parents access to the office, dinner money / Woodpecker box etc. Our children have their own entrances to their classes and we would appreciate it if we could keep to these systems in order to minimise the disruption to the teacher's preparations in the mornings. Thanks for your support of this.
Fixtures
Our apologies that recent fixtures have been cancelled due to the weather. In the event of a cancellation which is late, and we cannot get hold of you, we shall place your child in Woodpecker Club, or another club, should they prefer.
Warning
There has some been some suspicion of a vehicle parked near the school in recent days. The matter has been reported to the community police officer. We don't want anyone to be alarmed, but would ask that you be on your guard at dropping off and collection times please.
Volunteers
I have heard of a scheme that would allow anyone interested in delivering a broad based activity programme in after school time to 7-11 year olds, some training. It could cover four areas within activity from expressive (dance movement etc) to extreme challenges (Frisbee, golf etc). The scheme is called TOP ACTIVITY and would supply training CRB clearance and £400 of activities. Though we know most of you work and have very busy lives, if anyone is interested, do please speak to Mr Crabtree.
As we begin the run up to Christmas, I am aware of the lack of newsletters and the malfunctioning screen and endeavour to get more information to you more rapidly.
Yours sincerely,
Iain Crabtree
Please return to Miss Hammick
