Christmas Newsletter
NEWSLETTER
November 2009
Welcome back after the half term break.
As you will all be far too well aware, Christmas is fast approaching, and with it the School Xmas Fayre and Children's Christmas Party.
As is normal at this time of year, I am sending out our usual requests for assistance and donations.
Let's start with the Christmas Fayre on Friday 4th December 2009.
The Fayre is planned to start at 6pm and run through to about 8pm. As well as the normal stalls, there will be a few craft stalls. We would be very grateful for volunteers to help out with the raffle, tombola stall, etc and of course, refreshments. If you are able to help, please let Anita or Mandy know.
We would also be grateful for any donations for the raffle, tombola (we are hoping to run both an adults and children's tombola) and cake stall. Any donations can be placed in the collecting tubs, which will be in the Travel Shelter from next Monday. Donations for the Cake Stall can be left in the Village Hall on the Friday morning.
The Children's Christmas Party is being held on Thursday 17th December 2009. (There will be no school dinners on that day)
As you know we have been running raffles over the last few months to fund the party. However, the money raised so far will not stretch to cover the total costs. At the last meeting, it was decided that the best way to proceed would be for the money raised so far to be put towards the cost of the savoury food, drinks, Christmas crackers, table decorations etc and instead of holding more raffles, ask that parents provide the sweet course. We would therefore ask that each family bring in a donation of cakes, biscuits, fruit, etc on the day of the party
We would like to thank you in advance for your help and donations and look forward to seeing you at the Xmas Fayre.

FOHSA AGM
16th September 2009
Annual General Meeting
to be held on
Monday 21st September 2009
at 8.00pm
in the School Library
The above is to be held on next Monday and as a number of the existing Committee are standing down, we are looking for new committee members.
The Friends of the School actively organise events to raise money to make your children's time at the School a little bit better. The money raised goes towards:-
 Subsidising school trips (£10 was allocated to each child last year to help with the costs of the school visits).
 Purchasing additional equipment/toys
 Organising the Christmas Party and Children's Xmas Shopping Mall
 Organising events such as the School Discos, Christmas and Summer Fayres,
 And of course the School Leavers outing and leaving presents.
We really hope that we can continue with this work over the next year, however, we do need your assistance - so please do come along on Monday evening.
We look forward to seeing you, sharing a glass of Wine/Cup of Coffee, and hearing your views and ideas for the forthcoming year.

6th May
Minutes of the Meeting of the Committee held on Wednesday 6th May 2009 at 8.00pm at Lamb and Lion, Hambridge
Present: Anita Chew, Tammy Hill, Mandy Brister, Iain Crabtree, Becky Yeadon, Kerry Male
Apologies: Sara Postlethwaite, Rachel Davies,
Minutes of the last meeting were taken as read and signed by the Chair.
Matters Arising
Suggestion Box
Kerry advised that she would look into obtaining a wooden suggestion box to be sited at suitable place at School.
Coffee Morning
To be held for parents whose children would be starting in September. To be held in the School Library on 8th June 2009 at 9.15pm (after they had brought children into school for one of their 'taster' mornings at school). Current Reception Children's Parents had also been invited to attend. FOHSA to provide tea, coffee, biscuits etc.
Summer Music Event
After discussion decided to hold this event in September. Anita to liase with Barn Owl to see best way to promote the event. Thought it would be best to aim for Adults only.
Summer Fayre
To be held on Saturday 20th June 2009 - starting at 2pm and running through to 5pm. A list of possible stalls had been drawn up (see attached) and we would need to approach parents to volunteer to run the stalls sooner rather than later. Perhaps split down into 1hr shifts so that everyone would have a chance to enjoy the actual event and not be stuck on a stall all afternoon. It was also proposed to try and bring more people along to the event by writing to local pubs and schools inviting them to enter a Tug of War Competition. Mandy to arrange to draft letter and send out in next week.
End of Term Camp Out
To be held on Saturday 18th July. Ruth Evans and Ken Seal had offered to organise the event.
Seed Swap
Being held on Saturday 9th May. Tammy and Kerry advised that they hopefully had everything in hand. They would be at the Hall early on the day to arrange tables and ensure that the stallholders were okay setting up.
Mandy, Anita and Becky would run the refreshements between them, with the help of any additional volunteers that came forward. Tammy agreed to run the Sunflower Competition and if no one else came forward the Raffle could also be run from the Refreshments area. Iain, apologised in advance for not being able to attend the event as he was away for the weekend.
Easter Raffle
This had been a great success again this year and raised just over £56.00 pounds, the proceeds from which would go towards funding the "Mad Hatter's Tea Party" (See below).
Leavers Presents/Party
Actual details of the Leavers Party had not been decided yet. It was agreed to ask each leaver to advise which Book they would like as a leaving present and FOHSA would actually get this for them. This would enable us to get a better deal on a large purchase and give us time to arrange for the bookplates to be prepared and stuck into each book. In addition, from the money saved, FOHSA would contribute towards having a special school leavers photo taken. This would include a picture of the whole group, and individual photo, and several passport size photos which they could swap with their friends, This, together with the Autograph Books, would give the children a lasting momento of their time at Hambridge.
Mad Hatters Tea Party
Date of Monday 13th July agreed. Starting at 2.45pm and running though to 4.30pm. The children would be invited to dress up in Alice in Wonderland theme. FOHSA would provide an afternoon tea for the children, and provide cakes, possibly cream teas for parents to purchase when they joined the party at 3.30pm. There would be a
Catwalk parade later in the afternoon.
Treasurers Report
Sarah had been unable to attend the meeting, so nothing to report.
Correspondence
There was no correspondence
Any Other Business
Bags to School - Mandy to check that the blue bags would still be delivered in time for the end of term, with collection in September.
Meeting Minutes - Mandy suggested that the minutes be emailed to all parents in the same way that the school newsletters were sent out. Hopefully this would enable more parents to see exactly what FOHSA were about and encourage more parents to become involved and express their opinions/ideas. Iain said no problem with this.
There being no other business the Meeting ended at 9.35pm
Date of next meeting on Wednesday 10th June 2009 at the Lamb and Lion, Hambridge

NEWSLETTER
November 2008
Christmas is fast approaching and now is the ideal time to give you ample notice of the FOHSA events planned for the remainder of this year.
Christmas Fayre - Friday 5th December 3.30pm to 6.30pm
We are holding the Xmas Fayre straight after School this year in a hope that this will make things easier for parents by avoiding the need to return to School later in the evening.
There will be a vast array of stalls, Refreshments and the School Choir will perform.
We would be grateful for any help you are able to offer in organising this event. If you feel that you could run a stall on the night, please let Anita or Mandy know.
As in the past, the collections bins will be put out the week commencing November 08 and we would welcome any donations for the Raffle and Tombola. Donations for the Cake Stall should be taken to the Village Hall Committee Room on the 5th.
Shopping Mall - Friday 12th December
As in previous year's we will be running the annual Christmas Shopping Mall.
For parents new to the School, this is a chance for the children to choose a small gift during school time for up to 5 members of their families/friends. All the items are new (or as good as new), each present costs £1.00 and the items include things like chocolates, small toys, gifts suitable for Mums and Dads. The gifts are wrapped and ready to put under the tree (if they get that far!!!).
A further reminder will be sent out nearer to the time
School Christmas Party - Wednesday 17th December
As you will be aware, the money raised through the weekly cake raffles is being used to fund the cost of the Christmas Party this year. We would be grateful for any offers of help to set up the Hall on the day - please let Mandy or Anita know if you are able to help.
School Disco - Friday 19th December 6pm to 8pm
Finally, what better way to celebrate the last day of school and get the children into the Christmas Spirit (as if they should need any help!!). The Disco Dads have offered to host a Christmas Disco in view of the popular success of the last Spooky Disco which raised around £130 - further details to follow at a later date.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you, in advance, for all your help in organising the above events. We hope they will be enjoyed by one and all.
One last thing …. Don't forget to get your tickets for the Pantomine on Sunday 11 January 2009 - although there are two performances, tickets will be limited due to seating arrangements. Tickets available from Anita.
